Do you take time to celebrate your birthday or anniversary? O+I Develop is celebrating 5 years this month! In honor of this milestone, I paused to reflect, plan, refresh my values, and write a manifesto. This idea came to me in August during a silent retreat in the middle of an 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course sponsored by Pause.
3 Musings on Pausing in Work + Life.
1. Reflecting on Retreat.

I gifted myself a retreat to my favorite place, Black Butte Ranch (BBR). I’ve been visiting this oasis since I was 7. BBR fills my soul, and I have marked several occasions there, including my honeymoon 34 years ago.
I spent 3 days creating a timeline of the past 5 years’ accomplishments and planning immediate one-year goals and 5-year intentions. I like the idea of intentions because we know life can change, and it is essential to be flexible and adaptable to what might arise.
Writing was integrated with runs, walks, yoga, meditation, and spontaneous social time with friends. I believe this gift to myself will allow me to be more generous to others. I encourage you to create space and discover what fills you up.
2. Refreshing Values.

According to Brené Brown, “living into our values means that we do more than profess our values; we practice them. We walk our talk—we are clear about what we believe and hold important, and we take care that our intentions, words, thoughts, and behaviors align with those beliefs.”
Brené has an excellent exercise to help us narrow our values to 2. However, as I tell my clients, that is challenging. I typically recommend 3 to 5. This year, I refreshed my values and increased them from 3 to 5. I invite you to help me stay accountable to them.
Invest in relationships and causes that amplify equity and connection
Serve with compassion, kindness, and generosity toward ALL human beings
Cultivate growth, learning, and development in mind, body, and spirit
Practice presence and mindfulness to savor more gratitude and awe
Enjoy life and consciously integrate personal and professional priorities
3. Writing First Manifesto.

As a certified Benefit Corporation for Good, members are expected to write a Manifesto. For the past two years, I have pondered what O+I Develop’s could be. After refreshing my values, the manifesto arrived.
O + I Develop Manifesto
We believe in a connected and purpose-led world where every organization and individual is empowered to reach their full potential. Our mission is to partner with those who seek to live with purpose, meaning, and joy, unlocking possibilities and creating lasting impact.
In everything we do, we are guided by our core values:
Invest in Relationships and Causes: We prioritize relationships that uplift equity, connection, and service, recognizing that progress is rooted in how we support and elevate one another and protect our planet.
Serve with Compassion and Kindness: We treat all human beings with compassion, generosity, and kindness. We celebrate diversity and strive to create inclusive spaces where everyone is seen, heard, and valued.
Cultivate Growth in Mind, Body, and Spirit: We believe in the continuous growth of the whole self. We nurture learning, development, and well-being, ensuring our minds, bodies, and spirits are engaged and evolving.
Practice Presence and Mindfulness: We value the power of being present and practicing mindfulness. We seek to savor moments with gratitude and awe, appreciating the richness of life.
Enjoy Life: We consciously integrate personal and professional priorities to ensure our pursuit of purpose is joyful, fostering happiness and fulfillment.
This is not just a business but a movement toward greater connection, purpose, and joy. Together, we will build a world where every interaction is rooted in meaning, and every relationship helps create a more equitable, sustainable, and compassionate future.
Join us on this journey to live with intention, serve with kindness, and grow joyfully.
I invite several of my clients to write a leadership manifesto. If you want to do the same, here is a resource to explore.

Generations Workshop
I’ve been studying and sharing research about multiple generations in the workplace for 20 years, and the topic continues to evolve. It was great to refresh my presentation to include Generation Z and share it with Vista Capital Partners. Please let me know if you want me to bring this workshop to your organization!
